Hip-hop, teen pop top charts
In today’s music, the best-selling albums are a
great indicator of what the country is listening to.For the past
several weeks, the most popular tracks have been from artists
representing almost every music genre.Hip-hop, rap, country, pop and
R&B songs are all currently topping the Billboard charts. most
recent No. 1 in record sales belongs to a surprising group. While
Danity Kane doesn’t necessarily embody the most talented singers on
the charts, their album “Welcome to the Dollhouse” has been selling
like crazy.Few music critics predicted the former “Making the Band”
group could sell so many records.Another surprise has been the
overnight sensation of rapper Flo Rida.According to Entertainment
Weekly, Flo Rida had recorded his hit single “Low” before even
putting together the rest of his record. The instant digital
phenomenon sold more than 3.3 million downloads before his album
“Mail on Sunday” was even released. The song is still dominating
radio airplay and is No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100.Of course the
popularity of teen pop music is still dominating the charts. Miley
Cyrus (also known as her pop superstar alter ego Hannah Montana)
currently holds two places on the Billboard Top 10. Her “Hannah
Montana 2: Soundtrack/Meet Miley Cyrus” has been topping the charts
for an astounding 39 weeks. Her other album, “Hannah Montana/Miley
Cyrus: The Best of Both Worlds Concert,” broke the top 10 and is
still consistently selling units. The longest selling album
currently resting at the top of the charts is Taylor Swift’s
self-titled country record. Her hit single “Teardrops on My Guitar”
has achieved the rare feat of jumping from country radio to pop
stations as well. The singer was only 16 years old when she recorded
this album and it has done surprisingly well despite Swift’s lack of
experience. As far as veterans of the music business go, Snoop Dogg
is representing an older generation of artists otherwise absent from
the charts His album “Ego Trippin’” has been in the top 10 for seven
weeks.Gaining a renewed interest in his career after letting his
life be taped for his reality show, E!’s “Snoop Dogg’s Fatherhood,”
his music’s popularity has gotten a much needed jump start. His
single, “Sensual Seduction,” is also doing extremely well on the
singles charts.Newcomer Sara Bareilles has also gotten notice for
her first album, “Little Voice.” The record has been rocking the
charts for 25 weeks, with her hit song “Love Song” getting more and
more airplay.Overall, the current charts demonstrate this country’s
wide appreciation for all types of music. The best part is the
unpredictability of the numbers – will Miley Cyrus’ teenybopper fans
continue spending their allowance on her CDs? Or will Flo Rida’s rap
sensation overtake Danity Kane for the No. 1 spot? At this point
it’s hard to tell, but it sure is fun listening.

Man Fined For Grunting Too Loud
England: Bodybuilder Giran Jobe of Margate, Kent, was fined by a magistrate
for £70 for grunting too loudly and dropping his weights on the floor and
upsetting neighbors, despite multiple warnings since last June. In all, 47
complaints were filed.
68-year-old Doris Fox said sleeping was a problem with the 100-decibel noise,
measured by city investigators in units downstairs from him. "The noise was so
loud that I thought that he had an angle grinder up there." Jobe's punishment
baffled him.
"I don't play loud music, I don't have parties and I don't stamp around. All
I do is exercise and work out with my weights. I am trying to keep fit. I cannot
believe I got taken to court for exercising," he said.

Peter Walls, a British property executive of Sunderland Nothern England has
won an Internet libel case and was awarded $198,000. Peter Walls told the judge
how over two years how his staff and family were abused over the Internet.

day in and day out. A rival company created a Web-site called "Dad's Place" and
in it statements were made from anonymous user of lies and defamatory remarks.
Mr. Wall thought that the Web-site was started by the rival to pressure him
into paying more for homes that the company was selling. The payout was a record
for such a case.

Barber Brian Darwent lent cash to kids taking their PlayStations as surety.
He then then doubled their debts Sheffield Crown Court was told.
Darwent, aged 38, ran his illegal loan shark scam from his hair salon Bruno's
Barbers in Sheffield.
A diary documenting his activity showed he loaned to schoolchildren as young
as 14. He charged them 100 per cent interest on small cash loans and took games

Uribe Criticizes Obama
Colombian President Alvaro Uribe has slammed U.S.
presidential contender Barack Obama for opposing Colombia Free
Trade Agreement on the grounds of Colombian violence against
labor union members.
Obama said he would oppose the deals “because the violence
against unions in Colombia would make a mockery of the very
labor protections that we have insisted be included in these
kinds of agreements."
The administration wants Congress to approve the agreements
and further cement the South American countries preferential
trade status with the United States.

Survey: Drinking Bleach Prevents HIV, Mountain Dew Prevents Pregnancy
Florida legislators are encouraging a review of their "abstinence only" sex
education programs after a recent survey completed by Florida teens returned
some curious results.
According to some of the teens, drinking bleach will prevent an HIV
infection, and a dose of Mountain Dew soda will stop pregnancy. Knowledge of
condoms and other forms of sexual health appeared to be comparatively lacking.
State officials believe that the myths are spreading due to the lone focus on
abstinence, rather than other proven methods which encourage sexual health. A
new, more comprehensive Bill has been drawn, and has passed its first committee
vote. |

Jerry Seinfeld Escapes Injury After Brakes Fail on Car
Comedian Jerry Seinfeld has escaped injury after his vintage car
rolled while he was driving in the Hamptons. According to Seinfeld's
wife, Jessica, the brakes on the car failed, causing the accident.
She said: "He was a little shocked when he walked in and it
started to dawn on him what happened. I was extremely relieved and
grateful and I'm feeling very lucky that nothing happened."
Seinfeld was driving alone when he realised the brakes weren't
working. He swerved to the right to avoid crashing into other
traffic, which consequently caused the car to roll. |
