Policeman Drinks 18 Beers, Gets Promotion
Senior-Constable Alan Reedy, a member the Queensland Police Force
has admitted drinking 18 beers at a golf function before moving on
to a bar. There he was asked to carry out a breath test on a driver
who has since been charged.
When asked how many drinks he had he said "Mate,it was just one
drink all up". Next he went to another hotel where he allegedly made
racist remarks at aborigines. He then declared himself on duty and
attempted to arrest a woman who he says spat on him
The group attacked him, knocking him out cold. Charges against
the group were thrown out because "it would be unsafe to rely on the
complainant's memory to establish guilt beyond doubt". Since the
incident he has been promoted to Senior-Constable.
Lindsay Lohan Sex Tape?
There may be a sex tape making it's rounds on the internet
involving Lindsay Lohan and her ex-boyfriend Calum Best, son of
Irish Football player, George Best.
The video seems to have circulated by Calum sending it to his
"close friends" who also sent it to their friends and so on. Both
individuals refuse to deny or confirm the video exists.
Arkansas Towns Threatened
Towns in Arkansas are threatened by rising flood waters from the
state's rivers, with one town already flooded today in its low-lying
areas. Officials are warning that the state will suffer possibly the
worst flooding in 25 years.
Prairie County Sheriff, Gary Burnett, said today that, "It came
up just so fast. I'd never seen it come up so fast." The floods are
a result of the rains that hit the Midwest early last week. 17
deaths have been reported.
Mike Beebe, the governor of Arkansas, declared a disaster area in
35 counties across the state today. |

Olympic Protests
Three French protesters from the Paris-based media rights group Reporters
Without Borders have been arrested during what has been described as an
unnerving protest of the next Olympic games that are to be held in China.
"If the flame is sacred then so are humans," the French group stated. "we
can't let the Chinese seize the Olympic flame, a symbol of peace, without
denouncing the dramatic situation of human rights in the country."
It was the first time the flame-lighting ritual was upstaged by protests,
Olympic officials said. The stunt left Greek commentators speechless. According
to the Associated Press state TV in China cut away to a prerecorded scene.
Amy WineHouse Self Destructing Again
Mitch, the father of the Soul singing rebel Amy Wine-House, is really anxious
about her right now after he noticed angry scratches down Amys arm. When he
asked her about how this happened to her she replied 'It's nothing'.
Her friends feel this could be a reaction to recent fall outs with hubby Blake
Fielder-Civil; self-abuse was something they used to participate in together.
Blake is currently waiting a pending trial for perverting the course of justice
and assault.
It has been said he was angry and paranoid at the lack of contact with her.
Amy's father listened to her sing another new song she had written and finds it
impossible to believe how she can still write such wonders while losing control
of her life.
Police Recover Stolen Doughnut Truck After High-Speed Chase
Illinois: A delivery van from the Donut Delite doughnut shop has been
recovered after a high-speed chase over 100 miles involving nine officers after
being stolen from outside a hospital. The driver of the stolen vehicle was
arrested at gunpoint.
"What strikes me as a bit out of the ordinary in this case is the number of
officers who were able to respond. I don’t know whether the fact that the stolen
vehicle contained doughnuts has anything to do with it," said Assistant County
Attorney May.
The county sheriff assured the media that they didn't know what was in the
van. The van's owner offered the remaining doughnuts to the officers involved.
They declined, possibly because of protocol or possibly to avoid more humour at
their expense. |

Clouds on the horizon for Falluja?
Anbar Province, the US's good news story in Iraq, faces
challenges as anger grows in its city of Falluja over a
continuing lack of jobs, basic services, and political progress
despite the fact that it is the most stable area in the country.
The US military, which said it could transfer Anbar to Iraqi
forces as soon as this month, now gives no timeframe.
Ironically, Anbar's Tribal Awakening
Councils, or Sahwa, a big reason for Anbar's peace, now threaten
to become the problem.
Sahwa councils contain many former insurgents who now fight
against the chaos. They want to be employed in the Iraqi police
& military, but the Shiite
government in Iraq is wary of employing a military force with
many former Sunni rebels.

Parents Sue Over Gender of IVF Baby
Australia: A couple who used IVF to avoid having a son have launched legal
action after their child was born male. They were attempting to avoid having a
child with haemophilia, a blood disorder that effects only males. Their son Jess
was born with severe haemophilia. He will need lifetime care and is susceptible
to severe bleeding and spontaneous internal haemorrhaging. The couple would have
considered abortion had they been made aware of the gender of the baby. We love
our little boy, but we are very sorry he has to go through so much in his life.
We tried everything to avoid this situation, and now our boy has to go through
all the pain and treatment in order to survive," said the couple. |

Blu-Ray Copy Protection Broken
The much vaunted BD+ copy protection used on Blu-Ray disks has
reportedly been broken by SlySoft. The company says it broke the
protection in December but withheld the information until the format
war resolved itself.
In announcing that the copy protection could be removed SlySoft
made special mention of Richard Doherty of the Envisioneering Group,
pointing out that it has only been 8 months since he claimed BD+ was
unlikely to suffer a breach in the next decade.
"Future releases will undoubtedly have a modified and more
polished BD+ protection, but we are well prepared for this and await
the coming developments rather relaxed," said Peer van Heuen,
Slysoft's head of High-Definition technologies. |

Update allows PS3 to download content
The next update of Sony Corp.’s PlayStation 3 console,
slated late this month, will include features that let users
download games, video and ring tones. Sony said the system update will add Blu-ray Disc Profile
2.0, or BD-Live capability, to the PS3. It will also let
users copy photos and music playlists on to their handheld
PlayStation Portable, use the PSP as a remote control for
playing music on the PS3, and stream linked video files from
the Web. This will make the PS3 the first Blu-ray player with
access to Internet content and downloads. Matsushita
Electric Industrial Co., which owns the Panasonic brand,
also plans to ship a BD-Live player this spring. With the updates, Sony wants to build the gaming
console’s status as an entertainment hub. The downloadable content will range from bonus movie
scenes and trailers to “interactive movie-based games.” With Blu-ray established as the high-definition optical
disc standard, more consumers are ready to jump in and take
advantage of everything the format offers,” said Scott A.
Steinberg, vice president of product marketing. The free update also adds a “resume play” feature that
enables users to restart Blu-ray discs and DVDs at the point
where they stopped even if they take the disk out of the
drive. Sony is planning to release a stand-alone Blu-ray player
this summer that will feature an Ethernet port to download
bonus materials. It won’t be BD-Live capable — meaning users
won’t be able to access Web content — until a subsequent
software update. In this respect, Blu-ray players are playing catch up to
the recently defunct HD DVD systems, which always had
Internet capabilities. The BDP-S350 player will cost about $400; a second
player, shipping later this year, will cost about $500 and
be able to download Web content.
