Boomerang Thrown in Space Came Back
Japanese astronaut Takao Doi has thrown a boomerang in space at
the request of world champion boomerang thrower, Yasuhiro Togai, and
it has acted the same way it does on earth and returned to the
thrower.
Doi, 53, told his wife, "I was very surprised and moved to see
that it flew the same way it does on Earth." The Japanese Space
Agency will release videotape of this in the near future.
School Party Turns Into a Sex Feast
A total of 200 youths of which 70 were pupils of the Queen
Elizabeth School in Kirkby Lonsdale, Cumbria, were involved in an
event that left many of the girls involved undergo emergency
contraception through help of school, and a boy hospitalized.
The village hall committee allowed the students to use the
village hall for arranging their end of Year 11 party, not knowing
that no adults were responsible in arranging the event, in which
sex, drug abuse and violence took place.
"All hell let loose at this event. The children were drunk to the
eyeballs. They were having sex in the village square standing up."
is how Alan Day, village hall chairman, described the party. A
two-page letter of details was sent to the parents.
FBI Sets up Fake Child Porn Links That if
Clicked Trigger Armed Raids on Users
A new technique to catch people looking for child pornography
online has been approved by the courts and has already been used in
three states. It involves posting bogus links to illegal videos that
automatically triggers an armed raid on the user.
Doctoral student Roderick Vosburgh was caught this way last year.
Agents got him to come outside after asking him about his car. He
faces 10 years behind bars, a lifetime ban on being a college
instructor, and 15 years as a registered sex offender.
Vosburgh's lawyer said, "I thought it was scary that they could
do this. This whole idea that the FBI can put a honeypot out there
to attract people is kind of sad. It seems to me that they've
brought a lot of cases without having to stoop to this." |

Message in a Bottle Finally Gets Read
Alaskan Merle Brandell had a hard time tracking down the writer of the
message he found floating in a plastic bottle at a beach along the Bering Sea.
His return letter wound up in the hands of the superintendent of a school
district near Seattle.
The writer, Emily Shih, is a 30-year-old accountant who lives in Seattle. But
when she wrote the letter, she was Emily Hwaung, and she was just nine years
old, taking part in a project for her science class in the fourth grade.
The bottle with her letter took about 21 years to make the 1,735-mile journey
from the Seattle area to Nelson Lagoon, a remote town in Western Alaska on an
island that has no store and can only be accessed by boat or plane.
Date Rape Toys to Go Back on Shelf
The Chinese made toy, Bindeez, the 2007 Australian Toy of the Year will be
re-released in Australia. The little beads were banned because they contained a
precursor to the drug Fantasy also known as gamma-hydroxybutyric acid or GHB.
The new product has a different chemical composition and will be known as
Beados.Manny Stuhl of the distributors, Moose Enterprises said"By rebranding and
re-educating consumers on the differences, we can protect consumers from the
recalled product."
1.5 million packets of Bindeez were sold in Australia and 12 million were
sold throughout the world in six months. Nine children were hospitalised when
they were poisoned by the beads
Police Recover Stolen Doughnut Truck After High-Speed Chase
Illinois: A delivery van from the Donut Delite doughnut shop has been
recovered after a high-speed chase over 100 miles involving nine officers after
being stolen from outside a hospital. The driver of the stolen vehicle was
arrested at gunpoint.
"What strikes me as a bit out of the ordinary in this case is the number of
officers who were able to respond. I don’t know whether the fact that the stolen
vehicle contained doughnuts has anything to do with it," said Assistant County
Attorney May.
The county sheriff assured the media that they didn't know what was in the
van. The van's owner offered the remaining doughnuts to the officers involved.
They declined, possibly because of protocol or possibly to avoid more humour at
their expense. |

US Troop Deaths in Iraq Reach 4,000
Four more US soldiers were killed in southern Baghdad
Sunday, bringing to 4,000 the official number of
American forces killed in Iraq since the start of the
war.
The US military declined to attach particular
significance to the number, with a spokesman stating,
"It is artificial in the sense that somehow the 4,000th
tragic loss somehow will be different from the first".
An Iraq analyst characterized the number as likely
triggering more polarized debate about the war within
the US. Meanwhile, President George W. Bush, in a
March 19 speech marking 5 years of war, stated that
the US was "on track for victory".

Xbox 360 and Wii video game news
Update allows PS3 to download content
The next update of Sony Corp.’s PlayStation 3 console,
slated late this month, will include features that let users
download games, video and ring tones. Sony said the system update will add Blu-ray Disc Profile
2.0, or BD-Live capability, to the PS3. It will also let
users copy photos and music playlists on to their handheld
PlayStation Portable, use the PSP as a remote control for
playing music on the PS3, and stream linked video files from
the Web. This will make the PS3 the first Blu-ray player with
access to Internet content and downloads. Matsushita
Electric Industrial Co., which owns the Panasonic brand,
also plans to ship a BD-Live player this spring. With the updates, Sony wants to build the gaming
console’s status as an entertainment hub. The downloadable content will range from bonus movie
scenes and trailers to “interactive movie-based games.” With Blu-ray established as the high-definition optical
disc standard, more consumers are ready to jump in and take
advantage of everything the format offers,” said Scott A.
Steinberg, vice president of product marketing. The free update also adds a “resume play” feature that
enables users to restart Blu-ray discs and DVDs at the point
where they stopped even if they take the disk out of the
drive. Sony is planning to release a stand-alone Blu-ray player
this summer that will feature an Ethernet port to download
bonus materials. It won’t be BD-Live capable — meaning users
won’t be able to access Web content — until a subsequent
software update. In this respect, Blu-ray players are playing catch up to
the recently defunct HD DVD systems, which always had
Internet capabilities. The BDP-S350 player will cost about $400; a second
player, shipping later this year, will cost about $500 and
be able to download Web content.
