Holy Flying Stingrays Batman!

A 55 year old woman, while vacationing in Marathon Key FL, has died today after a spotted eagle ray jumped out of the water and struck the woman while she was sunbathing with her husband and children.

Officials are not clear at this moment if the woman died from falling backwards, sustaining a blow to the head, or being stung by the ray.

Jorge Pino said, "The chances of this occurring are so remote that most of us are completely astonished that this happened."

Just What America Needs - A Penis on the Roof

A news crew from Channel 12 News in Arizona informed a surprised home owner that he had a massive penis painted on the roof of his house after flying over the property in a traffic helicopter.

The enormous phallus is believed to have been added to the house by band members celebrating a bachelor party six months ago.

The owner of the house took the prank light heartedly and said that perhaps what America needs right now is a penis on the roof to cheer people up from the growing gloom over the US economy and other current events

Spend Money On Others and Be Happier

Researchers at the University of British Columbia and Harvard Law School have found that spending as little as five dollars on another person will make you happier, even if you thought it would make you happier spending it on yourself. n a number of experiments on 630 volunteers researchers determined that it did not matter how much the person earned as to the degree of happiness attained.Elizabeth Dunn, psychologist, stated, "Regardless of how much income each person made, those who spent money on others reported greater happiness, while those who spent more on themselves did not.

FBI Sets up Fake Child Porn Links That if Clicked Trigger Armed Raids on Users

A new technique to catch people looking for child pornography online has been approved by the courts and has already been used in three states. It involves posting bogus links to illegal videos that automatically triggers an armed raid on the user.

Doctoral student Roderick Vosburgh was caught this way last year. Agents got him to come outside after asking him about his car. He faces 10 years behind bars, a lifetime ban on being a college instructor, and 15 years as a registered sex offender.

Vosburgh's lawyer said, "I thought it was scary that they could do this. This whole idea that the FBI can put a honeypot out there to attract people is kind of sad. It seems to me that they've brought a lot of cases without having to stoop to this."

Woman Sits on Toilet For 2 Years. Boyfriend Charged With Neglect

After spending two years in a bathroom and sitting on a toilet for so long that the seat adhered to her body, Pam Babcock's live-in boyfriend has now been charged with neglecting her.

"The only thing I am guilty of is I didn't get her help sooner," McFarren told the AP, who has now been charged with mistreatment of a dependent adult. "This was a very unusual set of circumstances." said the Ness County attorney.

Babcock's stay in the bathroom caused a serious infection in her legs, and may now leave her wheelchair bound.

Hundreds Flock to ATM That Pays Out Double

There was no stopping hundreds of people once word got out only minutes after someone found that the ATM at Sainsbury's Local, a grocery store near the lucky customer's home, was paying double the amount requested by customers.

One witness commenting on the line, which grew to 100 strong at one point, said: "It was really funny seeing all these people trying to get one over on the banks. They were walking away with huge wads of cash and big smiles on their faces."

The machine began dispensing the bonus cash Tuesday around 5pm and ended at 8pm. A spokesman at the store said other area ATMs may have also had similar problems. It's up to the bank of each customer whether or not overpayment collection is pursued.

Israeli Army Given Go-Ahead to Shoot Palestinian Protestors

The Israeli government has given permission to the army to fire live rounds at Palestinian protesters around the wall surrounding the city of Jerusalem.

The protesters who are protesting the construction of a wall which was deemed illegal by the International Court of Justice in 2004 can now be shot by the Israeli army without legal consequences.

The order however to shoot does not include actions that have the participation international peace activists or Israelis.

Inaccurate Test Results - 108 Women Dead

Health authorities in Newfoundland have revealed that of the more than 300 women who received inaccurate breast cancer screening tests, 108 have died. This was the first admission from the government about how many women died.

A judicial inquiry into the preventable deaths has begun. The inquiry will examine how the questionable test results were able to continue undetected over an eight-year period. Quality control in other hospitals is now being questioned.

A shortage of pathologists in Canada seems to be partially to blame. Many provinces have relaxed rules in order to grant licenses to pathologists who haven't been certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada

Oldest, Thickest Ice in the Arctic Is Now Melting

NASA satellite data has revealed that old, thick "perennial" ice -- ice that typically does not melt in warmer months -- in the Artic decreased by 75 percent between February 2007 and February 2008. An area twice the size of Texas has melted.

While melting Arctic ice will not raise sea levels the way melting ice on Greenland and Anarctica will, open water absorbs more heat from the sun than an ice cap does, causing temperatures in the region to climb more rapidly.

Satellite data collected over Antarctica shows a less dramatic change, but scientists did note a dramatic warming on the Antarctic Peninsula, which reaches toward South America from the continent.

Vaquita Nearly Extinct

The Vaquita or Mexican porpoise is a mammal that is on the brink of extinction and is causing concern for conservationists. It seems there a fewer than 150, and about 600 were around at the beginning of the decade.

WWF director in Mexico Omar Vidal, where the vaquita live, expressed to Reuters that the fight now is to stop them from disappearing altogether. The mammal is small in comparison to other porpoise and is a rather shy creature.

The porpoise are getting tangled in the fish nets of fishermen that trawl the Sea of Cortez in the Gulf of California. It is believed that maybe one or two years are left before they are completely gone.
