CHILDREN AND THE BIBLE: Kids do as their parents
do when it comes to reading the Bible survey says.
Despite conflicting attitudes and acerbic comments, kids really
are influenced by the behavior and actions of their parents.
The American Bible Society (ABS) took a
look at the relationship young adults have with the Bible and the
influence their parents have.
The ABS poll confirms that parents
influence teens’ religious activities. When parents read the Bible,
pray and attend worship services, teens do to.
The survey conducted by Weekly Reader
Research and commissioned by the American Bible Society, found that
almost 80% of America’s 30.2 million 12-18 years-old think the Bible
is important and 87% of parents think the Bible is important.
However, the results show that parents
still have work to do. Of the 47% of teens who think that the Bible
is very important, only 11% read the Bible daily.
This survey corroborates one of the
findings of June 2006’s The Bible Society/Weekly Reader Research
poll of teens about their heroes. That poll revealed that 67.7% of
12 – 18 year-olds believe parents are the most important role models
in today’s society. |

Explosion in Times Square
At about 3:45 this morning, a device exploded, causing minor damage to a
military recruiting station. No one was injured. The Police department's bomb
squad and fire officials are investigating.
The explosion was loud enough to awaken nearby hotel residents who also saw a
'puff of smoke'. All traffic has been diverted around the area. Police aren't
sure if this blast is related to previous explosions.
Mayor to Locals: Dying is Forbidden
The village of Sarpourenx in southwestern France has encountered a dying
problem: the local cemetery there has run out of space for people to lay their
loved ones to rest. As a result, strict measures are being taken.
Mayor Gerald Lalanne told the residents of Sarpoourenx that "all persons not
having a plot in the cemetery and wishing to be buried in Sarpourenx are
forbidden from dying in the parish", adding that people breaking the law would
be severely punished.
The action, according to the mayor, was needed after an administration court
in the nearby town of Pau wouldn't let Sarpourenx obtain private land to extend
the property of the cemetery, saying the acquisition isn't justified.
One USD is now worth 25 million in Zimbabwe
As a result of the economic woes currently facing Zimbabwe its currency has
hit an all time low, one United States dollar is now worth 25 million Zimbabwean
dollars.
The country is experiencing the world's highest inflation with recent figures
at 100,500%.
Last year the currency steadily declined against several major currencies,
several local industries have collapsed and the country is now depends heavily
on imports.

Bush Backs John McCain
Bush happily accepted Republican John McCain on Wednesday.
Competitors since 2000 they now appear to be big friends both
united in wanting the same thing and stopping Democrats from
winning.
McCain was late arriving at The North Portico entrance so
Bush danced and joked to pass the time, then beaming he said how
much he wanted McCain to be the next President.
"But they're going to be looking at him. I'm going to be in
Crawford with my feet up," Bush said. "He's going to be sitting
in behind that desk making decisions on war and peace." McCain
won the GOP nomination, getting the essential 1,191 convention
delegates.

Patrick Swayze Has 5 Weeks Before He's Dead
Actor Patrick Swayze has been told by doctors that the cancer in
his pancreas is spreading and has left him with only five weeks
before he loses his life. His diagnosis came in late January.
Despite receiving radical chemotherapy treatments in Palo Alto at
Stanford University’s prestigious cancer center, optimism among
doctors treating him has evaporated.
Although his tumor did shrink after three sessions, it was less
than hoped. That was when Swayze, 55, was advised to "prepare for
