GIRLFRIENDS' TO HIGHLIGHT TEEN DRIVING ISSUES: Tonight's new episode to promote initiative from Allstate Insurance.

*Allstate Insurance Company has joined forces with the CW series "Girlfriends" to integrate a message about teen safe driving into an episode to debut tonight at 9 p.m.

The storyline involves Maya Wilkes (Golden Brooks) and her son Jabari (Kendre Berry) and will include dialogue about the risks and responsibilities associated with teen driving. In addition, the characters will specifically talk about Allstate's Parent Teen Driving Contract. The episode is slated to run again on March 9.

Allstate hopes the episode will resonate with families across America, particularly among African Americans, as according to the Centers for Disease Control, 13.4% of African American teens fail to wear seatbelts compared to Caucasian teens (9.4%).

In addition, the 30-second version of Allstate's "Tail Lights" commercial will air during tonight's episode. "Tail Lights" is the company's teen safe driving commercial, set to the tune of "From Where You Are," a song written and performed by Jason Wade, lead singer of the popular band Life house.

Brit Gets 4 Years in Dubai Prison For Speck of Pot Smaller Than a Sugar Grain on His Shoe

West Midlands youth worker Keith Brown has received a four-year jail term in Dubai for a piece of cannabis found on the bottom of his shoe so small that it can't be seen with the naked eye. He was returning from Ethiopia where he has family and land.

Another man has awaited sentencing since November for a similar amount of cannabis. The UAE's zero-tolerance drug laws have also jailed a Swiss man who customs officials found with three poppy seeds that fell off a bread roll at Heathrow Airport.

Another man was arrested for melatonin supplements used for jet lag. Fair Trials International said last night that extreme caution should be used for those traveling to Abu Dhabi or Dubai, who note that cases like these have soared in recent months.

Hockey Player Has Close Shave With Death

On February 10th Richard Zednik of the Florida Panthers nearly lost his life when a fellow teamate slipped and caught Zednik in the neck with his skate.

Zednik quickly made his way to the bench where he practically fell into the trainer's arms. Zednik was helped from the ice by the team trainer, and teammate Jassen Cullimore. Zednik is now in a stable condition.

This was not the first time that such an incident has occured on Buffalo Ice. In 1989 Sabres goalie Clint Malarchuk also received a skate to the neck, cutting his jugular. Malarchuk made a quick recovery and was back at practice within 4 days.

Chavez Threatens to Cut Oil to the US in Response to Exxon Mobil's Court Injunction for Compensation

In response to the court injunction brought against the Venezuelan government for compensation to oil giant Exxon Mobil, president Hugo Chavez has charged that Exxon Mobil is acting on behalf of the US government and has threatened to cut oil sales.

“If you end up freezing our assets and it harms us, we’re going to harm you,” Chavez said. “Do you know how? We aren’t going to send oil to the United States. Take note, Mr. Bush, Mr. Danger.”

He also spoke of an economic war against Venezuela by the US. He, along with other countries, will respond accordingly and cautioned that the price of oil will reach $200.00 a barrel.

Yahoo Set to Reject Microsoft

News reports are stating that Yahoo! is set to reject Microsoft's US$44.6 billion take over bid on the grounds of it being inadequate. The unsolicited offer amounts to US$31 a share, which is 62% more than the current price of Yahoo's shares. A source close to Yahoo's dealings said the company was unlikely to accept any offer that falls below US$40 a share, a level at which Yahoo's shares were selling two years ago. Neither company has made an official comment on the reports.

Barack Obama Beats Out Two Former Presidents to Win Second Grammy

Presidential hopeful Barack Obama beat out former presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton for top spoken word album at this year's Grammy Awards for his own book, "The Audacity Of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming The American Dream."

Clinton received a nomination for reading his own book as well, entitled "Giving: How Each of Us Can Change the World." Carter's nomination was also for reading his own book, "Sunday Mornings in Plains: Bringing Peace to a Changing World."

It is Obama's second award, also winning in 2006 for reading "Dreams from My Father," his memoir from 1995. Carter has won once before, and Clinton has won twice; wife Hillary also has one from her 1996 book, "It Takes A Village."

Artificial Sweeteners May Lead to Weight Gain

U.S. researchers have announced the results of a study with rats that suggests that artificial low-calorie sweeteners may make it tougher to lose weight. Rats given saccharin-flavored yogurt ate more than rats given yogurt with glucose.

They said the study suggests that sweet tastes trigger a response by the brain which may be thwarted when fewer calories are consumed than the brain expects. That might cause people to eat more than they ordinarily would have.

"Animals may use sweet taste to predict the caloric contents of food. Eating sweet noncaloric substances may degrade this predictive relationship," the researchers concluded

Woman Captures Ghost of Henry VIII on Film

54-year-old Anne Lambert of Clayton Brook, Lancs, who recently stayed overnight at Samlesbury Hall, said she photographed Henry VIII's ghost using a cell phone. It started when she began to hear ghostly noises and sensed something in the dark room.

"I was upstairs near the Priest Room. There were two people in the room, then they left, and all the hairs on the back of my neck started to stand on end. I thought, there's something there. I was taking different photos around the room," she said.

She didn't discover what she had until the next day when she got back home. Functions and events manager Lindsay Murray expressed excitement at the possibility of a new ghost in the 14th century Tudor manor house - "if there's a good picture of him."

Toledo, Ohio Mayor Refuses Marines Urban Combat Training Exercise

Toledo, Ohio, Mayor Carty Finkbeiner refused to allow a company of US Marines to conduct 'Urban Warfare Training' on the streets of Toledo, Ohio.

The training was scheduled to begin Friday, February 7, 2008 and last through the weekend. The mayor was quoted as saying he did not want the Marines 'playing war' or frightening the citizens of Toledo.

During the training, the Marines were to wear camouflage, drive and position military vehicles, carry rifles, conduct foot patrols, and fire blank ammunition.

Man's Perpetual Machine Stumps MIT Professor

Ottawa inventor Thane Heins, 46, has stumped MIT professor Markus Zahn with his perpetual motion machine that he's been working on for the last 23 years. An expert in electronic and electromagnetic systems, Zahn said he thinks he may have something.

"It's an unusual phenomena I wouldn't have predicted in advance. But I saw it. It's real," he said. Heins says it somehow manages to convert magnetic friction into a booster, creating a positive feedback loop that made the motor spin even faster.

Heins started a business in 2005 to market his device. He's given demos to many universities and companies, raised money, and even lost his kids, marriage and job. He sees it not as a scientific breakthrough, just an idea that deserves a closer look.

Tooth Shows Neanderthals on the Move

A 40,000-year-old tooth has shown that Neanderthals travelled further than what was previously believed. The tooth was found in Greece, part of the first and only Neanderthal fossils found in the country. Neanderthal travel is a controversial issue among paeleoantologists, with some saying they had very limited travel, while others state that especially while hunting, they must have travelled quite far.  The tooth was found in 2002. Paleoanthropology-Speleology Department of Southern Greece's spokesperson Eleni Panagopoulou said: "Our findings prove that ... their settlement networks were broader and more organized than we believed."
