Christian Teens to Rally in Times Square

On Feb. 8, hundreds of teens will rally in Times Square to counter a culture that glamorizes drugs, sex and violence. The RECREATE ’08 rally will showcase TEEN MANIA teens who are actively working to RE-create pop culture — including entertainment, fashion, the arts, and the Web — into products that that build up, not tear down, their generation. Fueled by their faith, these Teen Mania teens have sparked a movement of more than 400,000 like-minded teenagers who have gathered at arena events from coast to coast during the past two years to impact pop culture for the good of their generation.

Family-themed computer games are the new black

The booming popularity of non-violent and family-themed computer games helped the value of US game sales increase by 28% to $US9.5 billion, according to the Entertainment Software Association.

Almost 20% of all games sold in 2007 were in the family entertainment genre, a 110% increase on the 9.1% sold in 2006. M-rated games made up 15.5% of games sold, 56.5% were rated for all audiences and 28% rated “Teen”.

Console games sales constituted the biggest share of all sales, with $US6.6 billion worth of games sold, ahead of portable game sales on $US2 billion and computer game sales on $US910 million.

The ESA says the growing importance of the games industry is reflected in the fact that the release of the year’s biggest game, Halo 3, took in more revenue in its first day of sales than the biggest opening weekend ever for a movie (Spider-Man 3) and the final Harry Potter book’s first day sales.

"The video game industry set the pace over all others in 2007, with record-breaking sales, off-the-charts consumer demand, and innovation reaching from galactic exploration to guitar simulation," ESA chief executive Michael Gallagher says. "On average, an astonishing nine games were sold every second of every day of the year."

Police Officer Helped In Revenge Attack Which Lead to Pensioners Death

Bernard Gilbert, 79, died within 'minutes' of a revenge attack perpetrated with the help of a UK Police officer. He was targeted after an argument with Zoe Forbes over a parking space, she immediately phoned her husband and started plotting revenge.

Forbes' husband asked her to take down the old man's number plate and then passed it along through a friend to a Police officer to trace the man's address. A text message showed Forbes planned to "smash his car" when they found him.

4 days after the row in the car park, the Police had provided Gilbert's address and Forbes and his brother drove to it and threw half a brick through his window. The pensioner had a heart attack and was dead before paramedics arrived.

"The thrill is gone from my marriage," Brian told his best friend Mike. "Why not add some intrigue to your life, and have an affair?" his friend suggested. "But what if my wife finds out?" "Heck, we are almost on the beginning of the 21st century, Brian. Go ahead and tell her about it!" So Brian went home and said, "Dear, I think an affair will bring us closer together." "Forget it," said his wife. "I've tried that many times - it never worked."

Yahoo! Could Seek Google Help

Following the official bid of a buyout from Microsoft, Yahoo! has said it may be contemplating an alliance with Google to avoid the buyout. Microsoft has offered $44.6 billion for the company, which Yahoo believes undervalues it.In a memo written to employees last week, Yahoo said: "We want to emphasize that absolutely no decisions have been made -- and, despite what some people have tried to suggest, there's certainly no integration process underway."A Wall Street Journal report stated that Google CEO Eric Schmidt rang Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang to personally offer his support. However, Google did not confirm or deny the report.

Wrong Place Vandalized, Torched; Meant For Registered Sex Offender

Illinois: Evansville authorities believe a house that suffered vandalism early Friday morning was meant for a nearby residence occupied by a registered sex offender. In spray paint on the garage door was "GET OUT PERV" and fire was set to a trailer.

Robert "Andy" Gillespie was the likely target, a man who last month was arrested for child solicitation when he drove to meet who he thought was a 14-year-old girl he was chatting and sending pictures to online but turned out to be an undercover cop.

The cargo trailer sitting in the victim's driveway contained equipment for cleaning carpet and was a total loss, roughly $30,000. The owner was able push it with his pickup truck to a safe distance from the home before it had a chance to spread.

Spears' hospital stay extended 2 weeks

Britney Spears Faces 2 More Weeks in Psychiatric Care, Person Close to the Pop Star Says

Britney Spears' stay in a psychiatric ward was extended for two weeks under a section in state law that allows patients to be kept for medical treatment if they are found to be gravely disabled or a danger to themselves or others, a person close to the pop star told The Associated Press.

Spears was to be released Sunday from UCLA Medical Center's psychiatric ward after undergoing a 72-hour mental evaluation.

But doctors and a ward medical officer cited California law to keep her longer, said the person close to Spears, who requested anonymity.

Spears' detainment made it unlikely she would appear at a scheduled Monday morning hearing over custody of her children, 1-year-old Jayden James and 2-year-old Sean Preston.

Spears, 26, lost custody of the boys to ex-husband Kevin Federline following an incident last month when she refused to return the children after a visit.

Spears was briefly hospitalized at the time. On Thursday, she was again hospitalized.

On Friday, Court Commissioner Reva Goetz ruled that Spears needed someone else to take over her personal and financial affairs.

Spears' father, James, and her attorney, Andrew Wallet, were granted conservatorship, but a court hearing was scheduled Monday afternoon to review the matter.

A UCLA Medical Center spokesman did not immediately return a phone message Sunday seeking comment. Calls to Wallet and attorney Sorrell Trope also were not returned.

Spears' erratic behavior since she filed for divorce in November 2006 has included appearing in short skirts without underwear, shaving her head, abandoning a car in traffic when it had a flat tire, and recently, holding her dog and sobbing on a sidewalk

Teri Hatcher wins ruling in lip-plumping lawsuit

LOS ANGELES, California (AP)
-- Teri Hatcher has won a ruling in a feud between rival lip plumpers worthy of Wisteria Lane.

Teri Hatcher was sued by a cosmetics company over an endorsement deal.

A judge ruled Monday that a $2 million lawsuit against the 43-year-old "Desperate Housewives" star should be moved out of court and into arbitration.

The lawsuit from cosmetics company Hydroderm, filed late last year in Superior Court, claims that a 2005 endorsement agreement with Hatcher's production company stipulated that she would not pitch competing products.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Helen I. Bendix ruled that both sides are bound by a prior agreement to arbitrate all of Hydroderm's claims rather than litigate them in court.

The two sides signed the agreement November 30, according to Hatcher's lawyers, who filed the motion to move to arbitration.

According to the lawsuit, the company learned Hatcher was also pushing CityLips, a lip plumper made by City Cosmetics, which competes with Hydroderm's Volumizing Lip Serum.

"Hatcher's name, image and likeness have been linked to so many competitors' products," the lawsuit said, "that it is anyone's guess as to what product keeps her skin and lips youthful."

Hatcher's attorney Alan Wertheimer has called the lawsuit an "unjustified and public assault on Teri Hatcher's good name, reputation and celebrity."

Wertheimer has said that the deal with Hydroderm did not affect Hatcher's previous deal with

Hannah Montana' wins box office Super Bowl

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Walt Disney's 3-D movie "Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concerts" topped movie box offices, raking in $29 million for the biggest opening for a normally slow Super Bowl weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday.

With U.S. professional football's championship game dominating the entertainment landscape, the 3-D movie of Cyrus' (a.k.a. Hannah Montana) 2007 singing tour brought teenage girls streaming into theaters with their parents, said Mark Zoradi, president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Group.

"We're looking at this and realizing we made a little piece of movie history," Zoradi said. "This has been a family movie, and we've had lots of parents exiting theaters saying, 'thank you because we couldn't get into any of her concerts."'

Supernatural thriller "The Eye," starring Jessica Alba, took the No. 2 slot at U.S. and Canadian box offices with a $13 million weekend. The No. 3 movie was romantic comedy "27 Dresses" with $8.4 million, according to industry tracker Media By Numbers.

Cyrus, the teenage daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, portrays the title character of Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel cable TV program of the same name. Hannah leads a typical teenage life by day, but has a secret singing career on weekends. The show is a hit with young viewers.

The concert movie's No. 1 performance was even more important in Hollywood for several reasons.

Ticket sales came from screenings in only about 680 theaters and grossed an average of nearly $42,500 per theater, according to the Walt Disney Co.>. A typical No. 1 movie in wide release would open in around 3,000 theaters and average perhaps $7,000 per theater.

Moreover, new digital 3-D movies are seen as a growing industry trend because theater owners want to put new types of entertainment in their venues so they can compete for audiences against DVDs, video games and the Internet.

The format also allows live concerts like the Hannah Montana shows, or sporting events like football or basketball games, to be shown in theaters in 3-D. Promoters say watching events in this new 3-D format makes audiences feel like they are in the live venue.

For legions of Hannah Montana fans, that factor seemed to be especially important. Cyrus' concert tour late last year was a sell-out and among the hardest live act tickets to come by.

"These 3-D movies can really take you to a place you wouldn't normally go," said Michael Lewis, chief executive officer of the company Real D, whose 3-D technology is used in screening the "Hannah Montana" concert movie.

Based on the opening weekend's popularity, Disney said it is extending the movie's run in theaters.
