WHEN Captain Cook sailed to Australia, he did not do it in a
pink makeshift boat.
This male rat, dubbed Captain Cook, was found floating along
a canal at Hope Island on the Gold Coast in a bright pink cage,
complete with a pink house, after recent floods.
Just how long his river cruise lasted and where and how het
set sail is still a mystery.
Captain Cook and his cage were washed up on a jetty where he
was discovered and taken to the Animal Welfare League after his
river cruise.
He spent a couple of days in the pound but nobody claimed
him.
The small rat has been living the high life in their office
ever since, beefing up on a steady supply of rat pellets and
vegetables.
"He shells his own peas. It's really cute," said AWL
spokeswoman Amanda Freeman.
"He pulls off the outside and eats all of the inside."
Despite his pink lodgings, Ms Freeman said the male Captain
Cook was a great rat.
"He doesn't bite and he's really friendly," she said.
"He's still quite young and he'd be great with a kid to
handle him all the time."
Captain Cook is free to a good home.
